CHANCEL CHOIR is a mixed ensemble for adults of college age and older that rehearses every Thursday from 7:30-9:00 pm and sings every Sunday for the 11:00 am worship service from early September through May. ORGANIST AND ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
Jim Metzler was appointed Organist & Director of Music at Park Congregational Church, Grand Rapids on July 15, 2006. His duties involve directing the Chancel Choir, Smith/Dively Ringers, Parkmeisters (Men’s choir), Youth Choir and serving as Artistic Director of the “Music at Mid-Day” concert series which features a half-hour program of music every Tuesday from mid-September through May. He previously held similar positions at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock, Arkansas (1996-2006) and Trinity Episcopal Church, Toledo, Ohio. (1972-1996)
Following his early training as a boy chorister in the Choir of Men & Boys at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Worcester, Massachusetts, he was educated at Westminster Choir College, The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. A frequent recitalist, Jim has performed in venues such as Westminster Abbey (London), St. Paul’s Cathedral (London), Westminster Cathedral (London), Notre Dame Cathedral (Paris), King’s College Chapel (Cambridge) and Washington National Cathedral (USA).
As a choral conductor, he has undertaken 15 choral tours to England that have included directing the music for some 100 services in Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, York Minster, Durham Cathedral, Norwich Cathedral, Salisbury Cathedral and Guildford Cathedral.
