On Sunday, May 23rd, at 4:00 p.m., the Chancel Choirs of Park Church and Second Church will combine to present a concert of music by the famous English composer, John Rutter. In addition to the performance of several well-known anthems, the famous "Requiem" will be sung. Written in 1985 and first performed in October of that year, it follows the precedent established by Brahms and Fauré, among others, in that it is not strictly a setting of the Requiem Mass as laid down in Catholic liturgy, but instead is made up of a personal selection of texts (including Psalms 130 and 23), some taken from the Requiem Mass and some from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. The concert will use the alternative accompaniment version for organ with six instruments. A free-will offering will be taken. Please plan to attend this program of beautiful choral music.
